The Slovak government announced plans to the build the country’s largest solar park on Monday. State nuclear company JESS will construct the renewable energy development near the Jaslovenske Bohunice nuclear reactors.

The EUR 60 million investment will result in Slovakia’s largest solar power plant, spread over a105-hectare site. The solar farm, scheduled for completion in 2025, and will produce 58 megawatts of electricity, increasing the country’s solar output by over 10%.

Until recently Slovakia had a relatively restrictive solar energy policy that restricted solar panels to roofs, and forbade connection to the national grid. The Slovak government is now easing these regulations. Nuclear firm JESS may also build a hydrogen production plant, in the next phase of Slovakia’s complex energy development plans.
