Romanian Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, President Nicusor Dan and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte held talks in Bucharest focusing on strengthening Romania’s security amid ongoing regional tensions, ahead of the NATO Industry Forum held in the city.

The discussions centered on concrete measures to bolster the security of Romania, the Eastern Flank of NATO, and the Alliance as a whole, especially in light of the war in Ukraine and recent decisions regarding the repositioning of some American troops.

In a joint press conference with President Nicusor Dan, after the meeting held at the Cotroceni Palace, the senior NATO official emphasized that "Romania is a valuable ally for 20 years", specifying that Romania shows a spirit of leadership in the Black Sea area, which is a "strategic point" in the region.

"Romania invests in NATO and NATO invests in Romania", pointed out Mark Rutte.

He also highlighted NATO’s increased focus on the security of the Black Sea region, which remains a critical geopolitical hotspot.

Prime Minister Bolojan outlined Romania’s national priorities for ensuring Euro-Atlantic security, reaffirming the government’s commitment to modernizing military capabilities and revitalizing its defense industry. This plan includes leveraging the SAFE Program and presenting a finalized list of investment projects to the European Commission by the end of November.

The discussion coincided with the NATO Industry Forum in Bucharest, which provided a platform for Romania and allied countries to explore new initiatives to modernize defense technologies and industrial capabilities.

Romania holds a critical strategic role in NATO’s defense architecture, particularly as a frontline country on the Alliance’s eastern flank. Its geographical proximity to Ukraine and the Black Sea region places it at the forefront of efforts to deter Russian aggression and reinforce regional stability.
