Fast rail link to Romania’s busiest airport to open in March

Reading Time: < 1 minute

New train services will run from March between Ruse, north-east Bulgaria, and Henri Coanda Otopeni International Airport via Giurgiu, south Romania, and Bucharest North railway station, tourism website bgtourism.bg announced.

Private railway operator Transferoviar Calatori (TFC) will run the link to Romania’s busiest airport, which is possible due to the modernisation of the “Giurgiu-Comana-Bucuresti Nord” line.

TFC will operate Alstom Coradia LINT 41 trains that can reach speeds of up to 160 km/h. Produced in France, LINT 41s can carry 130 passengers, with 16 first class seats. They are already in commercial operation between Bucharest North and Brasov, central Romania.

Situated on the right bank of the Danube, Ruse was once Bulgaria’s most populous conurbation, and is now the country’s fifth largest city. Trips from Ruse to Bucharest North will take just under an hour, and 80-100 minutes to Henri Coanda Otopeni. The price of a trip will be LEI 25 lei (EUR 5).
