Russia’s FM to Brussels: “We’re done”
Reading Time: < 1 minuteThis week Russia’s foreign minister, Sergei Lavrov, on a visit to China, declared that Russia’s relations with the European Union are over, because the EU had destroyed long-term mechanisms between the two sides. Now, he said, Moscow would be dealing with individual European states instead of Brussels.
For this reason, Lavrov explained, Russia’s relations with China were developing rapidly.
He and his Chinese counterpart called for a meeting of the UN Security Council, due to the “destructive nature” of US intentions. Earlier, a number of Western allies imposed sanctions on China; Moscow is also anticipating US sanctions for alleged Russian meddling in the US presidential elections.
