QR Code Covid Passes set to Debut

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Following extensive debate between the European Parliament and Council, lawmakers in Brussels have reached an agreement on QR code Covid certificates that will be valid for EU citizens across the Union beginning 1 July. Presenting such passes will indicate that travelers in Europe have been vaccinated, tested, or have recovered from Covid-19. However, the certificates would only be valid in conjunction with one of several tests, like a PCR test in one case.

In their push to restore free movement within the Schengen Zone, MEPs argued for looser restrictions, even the possibility of free testing for EU citizens. Regardless of the certificates, member state governments will still have the final say on whether tests and/or quarantines are still necessary for visitors.
