The leader of Poland\u2019s ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party said it will change its legal system disciplining judges in an attempt to find a long-awaited compromise with the European Union.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jaros\u0142aw Kaczy\u0144ski, Poland’s de facto leader stated to the national press that the disciplinary chamber will be changed from its “current form”. However, he added that the disciplinary chamber \u2013 which according to Brussels breaks EU law would not cease function but will take a different form.<\/span><\/p>\n

Kaczy\u0144ski\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>announcement<\/span><\/a>\u00a0comes a month after the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) repeatedly told that the disciplinary chamber should be immediately suspended because of a lack of independence and lack of impartiality \u2013 and gave a 16 August deadline to make changes.<\/span><\/p>\n

Poland\u2019s top court in its reaction rejected the European Union\u2019s order and made it unconstitutional.<\/span><\/p>\n

Over the weekend Kaczy\u0144ski announced that the Warsaw government will propose changes to the disciplinary system in September.<\/span><\/p>\n
