Daimler AG has begun production of a purely electric model, the Mercedes-Benz EQB, at its Mercedes plant in Kecskemét, Hungary. An investment of HUF 50 billion was made into the German carmaker’s facility toward the new product line, with Daimler putting up HUF 35.5 billion and the Hungarian state contributing the remaining HUF 15 billion. Production of the EQB in Hungary is part of the company’s overall plan to introduce 20 electric- and 25 plug-in hybrid models to the market by 2030.
Christian Wolff, Managing Director of Mercedes-Benz Manufacturing Hungary Kft., praised the Kecskemét plant as one of the most modern Mercedes’ factories in the world. Jörg Burzer, Head of Production and Supply Chain, underlined Mercedes Benz’s long-term commitment to Hungary and said the company intends to further develop its operations in Hungary.
The first European Mercedes-Benz car plant opened outside of Germany, the Kecskemét facility was opened in March 2012.
